Reiki + Yoga Benefits for Horse and Human
Lala’s Mission & Approach
What This Looks Like in Practice
The Performance Horse Under Pressure: Show season is in full swing, and your horse feels it tight back, shorter stride, dull expression, or even new vices like weaving or cribbing. The pressure is not just physical; it is energetic. Reiki helps release the accumulated tension of travel, competition, and high expectations. Yoga-based centering practices before you enter the ring help you arrive grounded, so your horse feels a calm rider instead of a nervous one. Together, you move from pressure and performance anxiety toward flow and partnership.
The Spooky Horse: Your horse has been reactive on the trail, ears pinned, muscles taut. A Reiki session helps release the stored tension from a past scare, while ground-based yoga postures alongside him invite him to sync his breath with yours, shifting both of you from hyper vigilance into shared calm.
The Anxious Rider: You love your horse but find yourself holding your breath, gripping too tightly, replaying past falls in your mind. Yoga's eight limbs offer a path to presence, teaching you to regulate your own nervous system so your horse no longer has to carry your anxiety.
The Rescue Horse/Dog/Cat/Animal: He came to you with a history you will never fully know. He flinches at sudden movements and hides during storms. Reiki meets him where he is, no pressure, no touch if he is not ready, creating a safe energetic container that allows him to lower his guard on his own terms.
The Burned-Out Human: Between work, family, and caring for your animals, you have forgotten what stillness feels like. A session that blends gentle yoga, Reiki, or even sitting with a mindful crafting project offers a pause—a chance for your nervous system to remember how to rest.
The Senior Companion: Your aging cat or horse is slowing down, perhaps uncomfortable or confused. Reiki offers comfort without adding stress, easing the transition of aging and providing quiet moments of connection that speak louder than words.
The Creative Block: You have been feeling stuck, disconnected from yourself. Mindful crafting—working with reclaimed materials to create something meaningful—helps bypass the overthinking mind and tap into something deeper. Studies show that creative activities stimulate the brain's reward centers and can even shift physiological markers of stress
At GalacticZenDen, Lala is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of horses and their communities through the transformative power of Reiki, Yoga, and even some mindful crafting from time to time [see blog and social media].
The mission is simple: to foster a deeper, more lasting connection between people and their equine companions, cultivating a true understanding of their needs and our own through the healing practice of Reiki and the eight limbs of Yoga.
Why These Modalities Work: Understanding the Nervous System
Have you ever felt your heart race when your horse spooks, or watched your anxious dog pace during a thunderstorm? That is the sympathetic nervous system, commonly known as the fight, flight, or freeze response taking over. It is designed for survival, but when activated too often or for too long, it leaves both humans and animals feeling stuck, reactive, and depleted.
On the flip side lies the parasympathetic nervous system the “rest and digest state” where true healing, connection, and relaxation can occur.
Our bodies are not meant to stay in fight-or-flight forever. And through practices like Reiki, Yoga, and mindful crafting, we can gently guide ourselves [and our animals] back into balance.
Reiki works by inviting the body into a state of deep calm, allowing the nervous system to down-regulate. Yoga, particularly through breath-work (pranayama; limb 4) and mindful movement, has been shown to increase heart rate variability (HRV), a key marker of parasympathetic activation and resilience to stress . In fact, studies show that regular yoga practice increases vagal tone, meaning the body becomes better equipped to return to rest-and-digest after stressful events . Even slow, intentional breathing at rates below 12 breaths per minute, common in yogic practices, has been found to directly stimulate the vagus nerve, the body's built-in "calming switch" .
Mindful crafting, too, is not just about making something beautiful. The repetitive, intentional movements of working with reclaimed materials engage what researchers call "flow states" those moments of total absorption where the outside world falls away. Handcraft activities have been shown to reduce anxiety and PTSD symptoms, increase mindfulness, and create a sense of accomplishment that rebuilds confidence . Whether it is shaping wood, weaving fabric, or simply focusing on the texture of materials in your hands, the act of creating becomes a meditation in itself, one that settles the mind and soothes the nervous system .
When we bring these practices together, Reiki's gentle energy, Yoga's grounding wisdom, and the focused presence of mindful crafting, we are doing more than offering a service. We are creating a container for healing that honors the whole being: body, mind, and spirit. For the horse who arrives tense and untrusting, for the human carrying the weight of a long week, for the dog who needs to feel safe again, these modalities meet each of you exactly where you are and gently guide you back to center.
